Winning the inaugural Berserker Award for the top all round student at the Computer Gaming Course at Gympie State High School was Tom Spratt.

AUSTRALIA’S first intake of high school computer gaming students graduated last week at Gympie State High School.

The course Certificate III in Interactive Entertainment was the brain child of Gympie State High School teacher Ken Brady.

Mr Brady started the course two years ago after seeing the need for specialised training in the multibillion dollar computer gaming industry.

He set up the course from scratch and next year he will see the course extended to be a certificate IV and be available to kids across Queensland online.

Mr Brady said Education Queensland was putting the course online so schools across the State could access it.

Gympie State High school principal Murray Wegner said Gympie High and Mr Brady would be the host school and teacher.

“It is proof of recognition,” he said.

Twelve students finished the course with some already looking for work in the industry.

Tom Spratt won the inaugural Berserker award for the best overall student.
