ACTIVITIES and end-of-year celebrations are already booking out local residents’ calendars.
A lot of planning and preparation is already well underway for Christmas in Cooroy to be held on Saturday, December 5.
The venue will be Apex Park from 4pm to 10pm. A feature of the day will be the Bendigo Bank Street Parade and the Great Santa Race.
Free entertainment will include magician, face painting, rides, fireworks, giveaways, competitions and music provided by local band Rust. There will be heritage displays, food stalls and a licensed area. The day is being organised by the Cooroy Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Cooroy. Pomona In The ParkTHURSDAY, November 26, has been set for the annual Pomona In The Park. This event is a celebration of the end of the year for school students and sees students and teachers from Pomona State School prepare songs and performances. Over 1000 people are expected to bring along picnic rugs, chairs and picnic hampers to enjoy the entertainment in Stan Topper Park. Major sponsors for the event are local businesses, Page Furnishers and IGA Pomona.
Seniors Christmas lunchTHE Seniors Christmas Lunch this year will be held on Thursday, December 3. Venue will be the Pomona Bowls Club. The lunch is organised by the Pomona and District Community House Inc. and cost is $10 per person (BYO drinks).
Special diets can be catered for by request, and local transport can be arranged at a cost of $2 per person. Live music and a singalong will be provided by the popular Col Noble. There will be lucky door prizes, raffles, a prize for the best Christmas costume, and lots more.

Genealogical newsA SUCCESSFUL fundraising plant sale was held last month by the Cooroy Noosa Genealogical and Historical Research Group.
. Winner of the raffle was Mavis Cochrane, with the prize being a hand-made rug donated by Di Rinaldi. The next monthly meeting will be held tomorrow Saturday, November 7 at the Research Group’s rooms which are situated in the old Guide Hut, 41 Miva Street, Cooroy (turn off Cooroy-Tewantin Road at the Anglican Church Hall).
The meeting starts at 1.30pm, and guest speaker will be Ray Chapman speaking on Australia Post, its history and into 2009.

On the beachANYONE interested in operating businesses on public beaches, rivers, foreshores or parks is invited to register expressions of interest with the Sunshine Coast Regional Council now. Current and potential operators wanting to run businesses such as surf schools, boat hire or fixed location food vans on council-controlled community land are among those expected to register their interest with the Council.
Community feedback on the types of commercial activities residents are happy to see on public land, including Noosa’s Main Beach, the Cotton Tree foreshore, and Happy Valley in Caloundra, is also sought.
Interested operators have from now until 5pm on Friday, November 20 to register their interest with the Regional Council and can download the Registration of Interest Form from Council’s website at www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au or by emailing christine.glass@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au
Remembrance DayCOOROY RSL will be holding a service for Remembrance Day next Wednesday, November 11 at the RSL Memorial Triangle Park, Cooroy (near the Ambulance Station).
The service will commence at 10.30am and afterwards drinks and nibbles will be served in the RSL Club in Maple Street for all sub-branch members, families and their guests. Everyone is welcome to attend the service.

Annual Cent SaleTOMORROW sees the holding of Traveston Community Tennis Club Inc.’s popular Annual Cent Sale. There are masses of great prizes on offer, and a delicious afternoon is assured.

Silent Film FestivalNOVEMBER is Silent Film Festival Month at Pomona’s community owned and run Majestic Theatre.

The Festival will run from November 20 to 22, but there is also other silent films screening throughout the month, as well as the popular fork’n’film evenings.
Local Garden ClubOUR local garden club, the Cooroy Eumundi Garden Club, is holding its next meeting next Monday, November 9 at 9.30am. The venue will be the Fernandes garden at 59 Orana Avenue, Pomona. Guest speaker will be Neil McCluskey from The Environment Centre. New members and interested persons are always made most welcome.
