Dam tourists locked out

VISITORS to the Gympie region can already experience some sort of taste of what the Queensland Government means when it says that the Traveston Crossing dam would be a “tourist mecca”.

The Borumba Dam has been a tourist attraction for many years, with fishers and boaties regularly drawn to the area.

Along with those major attractions, one of the charms of the dam precinct has always been a walk along the top of the dam wall, taking in the magnificent views of Lake Borumba.

But no more, it seems.

As The Gympie Times discovered yesterday, government planners have locked away and walled off the view, with a locked gate preventing access and a new raised wall blocking any possible view.

The paper will seek comment from dam administrator, SunWater.
