AMID controversy about Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service dingo management policies on Fraser Island, a Sydney academic says the original Australian dingo is in danger of being bred out of its species.

University of Western Sydney native animal expert Ricky Spencer says that domestic dog bloodlines are in danger of overwhelming the original strain of dingo.

Mr Spencer says that over the past 50 years, the average Australian wild dog has increased from the size of a kelpie to the size of an alsation.

“They've been cross-breeding and the dingo is pretty much now extinct,” Mr Spencer says.
