Council cuts costs for budget

AFTER three full days of budget talks, Gympie Region Mayor Ron Dyne said he thought council had arrived at a conclusion.

He said last Friday's deliberations had gone well.

“A bit of tweaking on the outsides (is needed but) I think we can get there,” Cr Dyne said.

The figure that everyone has been dreading to hear has been derived, although Cr Dyne said he couldn't tell The Gympie Times what rates had risen but the draft budget should be before council on July 22.

He said council had budgeted for the appropriate income.

“Council has got to cut costs for the circumstances,” he said.

Fraser Coast and Sunshine Coast Regional Councils have lifted general rates to 6.2 and 6.3 percent.
