THE Cooloola Coast Kart Club is bracing itself for an invasion of mammoth proportions next month when the organisation proudly hosts the Southern Cross Motorsports Queensland State Championships.

Just under 400 entries have been received for the 15 categories to be contested at the track between July 3 and 5.

And while the event is an obvious winner for the Cooloola Coast Kart Club (CCKC) Gympie as a whole stands to benefit from the event.

CCKC president Dale Coomber highlighted the projected benefits for the local economy:

“The event will have a big impact on the local economy,” he said.

“We expect over 1000 visitors spending four or five days in the region.”

Meanwhile, a large number of Gympie karting competitors are presently fine tuning their machines and themselves ahead of the event - each hoping to benefit from a home track advantage.

Practice sessions before the main event will begin July 1, followed by a qualifying round on Friday, July 3.

Stay tuned to The Gympie Times for further information ahead of the event as the big weekend nears.
