Woman laced ex-husband’s protein drink with epsom salts

A GYMPIE wife said she had "no regrets" about cutting her ex-husband's protein shake with magnesium sulfate.

Wendy Lee Meehan, 47, and her ex-husband were still living together when she added the magnesium sulfate, more commonly known as epsom salts, to the protein shake he drank every night after dinner.

Each night from September 2-5, Meehan's ex-husband would drink the shake after dinner and then become ill, throwing up his meal.

After days of evening illness, the man noticed a difference in the texture of his shake and his son identified the foreign crystals as epsom salts.

Shortly after, Meehan's daughter came across messages on Facebook from her mother, who made a guilt-free confession to making her ex-husband ill.

"I did put epson salts in his power drink," Meehan confessed.

"Not regreting wat i did at all ... it ws a bit of epsom salts. get over it ... not as thought I stabbed him," the messages read.

While Meehan's defence lawyer Lesley Swift said no serious harm was done to the man and that epsom salts were not noxious, Meehan pleaded guilty to one charge of common assault. The charge had replaced one of administering poison with intent to harm, which Meehan had originally been charged with.

Magistrate M. Baldwin, after taking Meehan's circumstances into account, fined her $440. No conviction was recorded.
