FORMER Gympie woman Eleanor Nimmo was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia yesterday for her service to the community through a range of charitable and service organisations.

Mrs Nimmo, who now lives at Noosa, has contributed to many charitable organisations, holding positions including president of the Gympie Lions Ladies, president of the Henpexians, president of the Laguna Bay Ladies Probus Club and as a foundation volunteer of the Gympie Meals on Wheels.

Mrs Nimmo was also a member of Lions Ladies for 24 years, a volunteer with the Friends of Gympie Regional Libraries for 30 years, helped establish the Noosa Bridge Club, and was a Long Weekend and a Noosa Hospital volunteer.
