SURF ALERT: Little surf but days are ideal

Stand Up Paddle has been the board of choice this week.

RAIN, sun, rain, sun, and not much surf.

That's the way it's been for the past three weeks and it looks like it'll stay that way for a while yet.

The water temperature is hovering in the low-high teens and the whales are heading south.

For all the one-day rain spells, there have been the most spectacular spring days in between.

Agnes Water to Coolangatta, tomorrow: Fresh offshore winds in the form of W-SW at 10/15 knots will greet the Sunshine Coast early. By mid-morning, the winds will drop, leaving us with a sunny and light-wind day.

The surf, if any, will be a metre or less on the open beaches. Don't hold your breath.

Gold Coasters can plan on a small-wave day with the surf not exceeding a metre. Most places will be struggling to do even that.

Winds will be light early, then fresh W-SW by noon, easing through the afternoon to light and variable.

Heaps of sun and good wind conditions either side of noon will make for a pleasant day at the beach.

Sunday: A few high clouds won't mar the sunny day and rain chances are nearly nil.

Really, this should be a close-to-perfect day with temperatures forecast to hit 29 degrees and light winds.

The surf won't have come up and if you find any, it will be very small.

On the Gold Coast, you can expect the day to be hot (29), with light winds and tons of sun.

The surf will be a metre or less, but a few wide open spots may have some action.

Tweed Heads to Coffs Harbour, tomorrow: Fresh offshore W-SW winds will keep things clean and small in the morning. Surf size won't exceed a metre, if that, but it will be very clean. Head for the wave magnets.

The winds will then ease, and for the rest of the day, there will be light winds and lots of sun.

Coffs surfers will be eyeing-off a complex low south of their position but chances are that it will be slow moving, keeping swell down and SW winds strong.

The call is for 20/30 knots SW winds early, dropping rapidly in the afternoon to less than 10 knot S/SE.

Surf size? A metre or less.

Sunday: After a glassy dawn, the winds will lift to 15 knots from the W-SW by noon. They'll then back off through the afternoon. The surf will remain small: 1m or less at even the most exposed places.

Disclaimer: This forecast is prepared the previous Thursday in order to satisfy newspaper production requirements. As conditions may change, it is always recommended that you take a good look before ever entering a surf zone.
