Racing debates election promises
THE LNPs election promise of and extra $1 million for country racing will come in for plenty of discussion amongst country racing participants over the next few weeks.
The LNP originally promised 20 more country race meetings utilising the $1 million but there is conjecture that the money could be better spent.
Some, including Craigleas Stan Johnston and leading northern trainer, John Manzelmann, favour raising prizemoney at non-strategic clubs.
The 70 non-strategic clubs conduct 100 race meetings with $4000 prizemoney per race.
The 26 Strategic Clubs, which include Gympie, Nanango and Bundaberg , hold a total of 200 meetings per year with $6000 per race as base prizemoney.
The changes are due to come into effect as from July 1 this year.
