OUR SAY: Pyramid mystery continues

BACK in the early 1990s, when I was a fresh faced cadet, I was sent out to the Gympie "pyramid" to do a story on the site just east of Gympie.

I was expecting something moody and enigmatic like Picnic at Hanging Rock, complete with haunting pan pipe music.

But, more like Fifty Shades of Grey the movie, it was a bitter disappointment. An overgrown hillside with a few rocks poking out.

Was this the work of ancient Egyptians, aliens or Chinese market gardeners? I sought answers to these questions.

Over the years, theories have been published and discredited, websites established, battles won and lost.

Now there is a native title claim through the middle of it that could reroute the whole Bruce Hwy bypass. The continuing story of the Gympie "pyramid" is far from over.
