It's Rocket Science
TWO Grafton musicians are on the verge of a licensing and distribution deal with record label Rocket Science, a subsidiary of Sony Music.
Nathan Cave plays guitar and Craig Irons plays bass in metal band In-Cyde, which struck the deal thanks to the band's manager Dave Chavarri who also happens to be the drummer for US metal stars Ill Nino.
Cave said Chavarri was impressed with In-Cyde early last year when the band was recommended by a mutual acquaintance of vocalist Nick Blom on the Gold Coast.
Chavarri got busy and produced two tracks for the band (Idaho of Ours and Cold Body of Water) which he used to push the band to key record labels including Rocket Science.
The deal, said Cave, would effectively open doors for the band with its third album Plague, which will be released in the US first in October.
"It means our CD will be in shops across the US and the company will help promote it to radio stations," he said.
Plans were already under way for two to three months of US touring to coincide with the album's release.
In-Cyde went to the US last year after Chavarri booked them a gig at the world-famous Whiskey a Go Go.
"That was just amazing, the place has so much history," said Cave in Grafton yesterday.
Blom and drummer Josh Paish (from Alstonville) will head over to Hollywood in coming weeks to put the final touches on production of the album and the deal itself.
