Insurance holding up work
WORK won’t start on the flood-ravaged Kilkivan showgrounds until insurance details are sorted.
A report tabled at a recent Gympie Regional Council Community and Economic Development Committee meeting stated the showgrounds suffered major damage from fast-flowing water up to two metres high during the flood.
Water reached above bench height in the hall, and one timber building was carried off its stumps, destroyed and deposited about 50 metres away.
A Colorbond type shed was left unrecognisable and wrapped around a tree.
The report also said what remained of other buildings was either damaged or destroyed.
Currently Kilkivan depot staff are flat out fixing roads and other infrastructure, but the council hopes some material can be recycled.
The Gympie Regional Council is also looking into individuals’ responsibilities at the site before proceeding further.
