Heritage listing objection withdrawn

THE home of the campaign against the Traveston Crossing dam is back on track for preservation, with Gympie Regional Council set to withdraw its objection to heritage listing for the building.

Council Planning and Development Committee chairman Ian Petersen said the council had been concerned at maintenance costs for the former Kandanga Fruit Growers goods shed.

“But it is currently leased by Friends of Kandanga and they are taking care of the maintenance,” he said.

But Cr Petersen said the council was maintaining its objection to listing of the old Spring Valley public cattle dip, “because we can see some significant dollars going into restoring it.”
