Rush misses dad's funeral in Gympie
A PRIVATE ceremony in the St Patrick's Catholic Church in Gympie farewelled the father of one of Australia's most famous exports yesterday.
Family and friends of Vietnam veteran and Gympie grandfather Roy Rush, the father of Academy award winning actor and Australian of the Year Geoffrey Rush, followed the church service with a private burial in the Gympie cemetery and a wake at the Gympie RSL.
Mr Rush was a Flight Lieutenant in the RAAF from 1956 until 1976, and was a member of the No 2 Squadron Phan Rang in 1967-1968.
He relocated to Gympie with his family in 2000.
Geoffrey Rush did not attend yesterday's funeral as he was on set filming in Italy.
