Gas leak may take time to fix

AN exclusion zone has been set up following a leak at a coal seam gas drilling site near Chinchilla.

Queensland Gas Company says it suspended operations on a drilling rig in the Surat Basin after detecting the gas leak overnight, but it could be days before the problem is solved.

In a statement, the company said a 150-metre exclusion zone was set up as a precaution while engineers worked to fix the leak.

"The incident occurred during drilling of the Argyle 162 well, about 25km south-west of Chinchilla, on a QGC-owned property," it said.

"Nobody has been hurt and the leak is not considered to pose any significant safety risk."
