FORENSIC investigations into a fatal four-wheel drive crash on Fraser Island on Friday revealed the driver was trying to overtake another vehicle when it rolled.
The crash happened around 2pm on the inland gravel road on the island and killed 22-year-old British backpacker Jade Fox, as identified by News Corp.
It is believed the Toyota Landcruiser was travelling in a convoy of three and heading south towards Hook Point to catch a barge back to Inskip and was in the process of overtaking another vehicle when it rolled.
News Corp reported Ms Fox was holidaying in Australia with friends and it is believed she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. She died at the scene.
Five other passengers were taken to Gympie hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver, also a backpacker, and another passenger were airlifted to the Hervey Bay hospital with non-life threatening head injuries.
The pair at Hervey Bay hospital was released Saturday.
