Wonga Drive-in's gates close

The Wonga Drive-in’s future depends on the plans of the highest bidder when the property is auctioned in the near future.

ONE of the few remaining drive-in theatres in Queensland has closed its gates, awaiting sale.

It is believed the Wonga Drive-in has gone into receivership, ending former owner Gary King’s dreams of showing movies in his backyard.

He developed the drive-in from one to three screens in the past few years with a professional fit-out considered by the Drive-ins Downunder website to put many operating drive-ins in the country to shame.

The future of the drive-in is not known, but it is expected to be auctioned soon.
