Croc is Coffs' newest 'big' thing
ANYONE with an interest in croc hunting needs to find their way to Bray St.
Coffs Harbour's newest resident is Australia's largest reptile - but there's no reason to be alarmed. This 10m-long beast isn't dangerous and will be stuck to the roof of Outback Jacks restaurant in the Bray St complex.
"When you walk in through the front doors one of the first things you will see is a giant crocodile head smiling at you," franchisee David Hagarty said.
"It will create quite a first impression."
The Queensland town of Normanton has the big crocodile while Humpty Doo which is south of Darwin has the big boxing crocodile.
But neither of those matches the size of Coffs Harbour's latest "big thing".
There is a large croc inside all of the 33 Outback Jacks franchises around the country but it has been guaranteed that Coffs Harbour's "Jack" will be the biggest of the lot.
Mr Hagarty adds that it's not just the croc that is big in the restaurant; it's the food as well and he guarantees the service will be snappy.
Claiming to have the largest steak menu in the world, Mr Hagarty is keen to see which rugby league player in town has the biggest appetite for meat.
After the restaurant opens on Easter Monday, he wants Group 2 clubs Woolgoolga, Orara Valley, Sawtell and Coffs Harbour to nominate their biggest eater and have them take the 1kg rump challenge.
That's a 1kg rump steak, 500g of steamed vegetables and 500g of wedges that needs to be consumed in 30 minutes.
Mr Hagarty said that he will give whichever gastronomical gorger wins the challenge $200 worth of vouchers for that player's junior rugby league club to use.
Judging will take place under the watchful eye of Jack, Australia's biggest crocodile.
