A COUPLE towing a caravan along Tin Can Bay Rd were lucky to escape without serious injury yesterday when their caravan flipped while overtaking.

Tin Can Bay police officer senior constable Rob Martin said the caravan, towed by a Nissan Navara, was headed towards the coast when it started to fishtail while overtaking another vehicle near the intersection of Swampy One Rd.

The near new 6.7m Roma Sov'reign caravan left the road and overturned.

It was a write-off.

Fortunately, the caravan unhitched from the tow bar of the Navara during the accident, allowing the vehicle and its two occupants to stay upright.

Senior Constable Martin said things could have been a lot worse if there was another vehicle coming in the opposite direction along Tin Can Bay Rd.

With two road-related deaths in a week, Gympie police are urging all residents to drive carefully.

Police are urging anyone witnessing dangerous driving on the region's roads to report it to police.
