Builder jailed for inappropriately touching a girl

A GYMPIE region builder has been sent to jail for indecently treating a girl.

Gary Michael Schluter, 59, faced Gympie District Court this week to confess to six counts of indecently treating a child under the age of 16.

The court heard the sexual offences occurred after October 2001 and involved at least six occasions when Schluter inappropriately touched the girl.

They have left the victim still battling with the trauma and feeling like "a lesser person", the court heard.

After a brief appearance in Gympie District Court's last sittings to obtain an adjournment, Schluter on Monday pleaded guilty to all six counts.

He was sentenced to 12 months jail and will be required to serve three of those months before being released back into the community to serve the balance as part of a suspended sentence, which will remain operational for two years.
