Bruce Hwy open but several bridges still closed

GYMPIE'S Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) met this morning to discuss the overnight developments of the flood situation.

The Bruce Highway has reopened to all traffic in both directions.

Bells Bridge remains closed due to flood water with the additional concern of a very large tree which is wedged on the deck of the bridge.

Engineers will ascertain whether the bridge has been structurally damaged when the water levels drop enough to allow a thorough inspection.

While the Normanby Bridge reopened late last night, Kidds Bridge will remain closed until at least later today.

The Local Disaster Coordination Centre (LDCC) is officially on stand down mode and the Recovery Group will meet at 9am to discuss recovery operations.

Road opening updates and other important information can be found on Council's website, gympie.qld.gov.au and social media.

People needing road closure updates for roads outside of the region are advised to consult the State Government website, 131940.qld.gov.au for up to date information.
