Missing Tannum girl with child protection officers

UPDATE: WEDNESDAY: 8.29am:

A SIX-DAY state-wide search for a missing girl that has travelled across social media has ended after the girl presented herself at Gladstone Police Station.

Police initially held concerns for the girl, 14, because of her young age.

The girl was safe and staying with people she knew, however, reports of her disappearance, shared widely on social media, prompted her to present herself to police.

She is now in the hands of the Department of Child Safety, according to Officer in Charge of Gladstone Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) Chris Lindsay.

The girl, believed to be from Mt Gravatt, in the state's south east, was staying with a relative at the time of her disappearance.

He was addressing the media but speaking directly to 14-year-old Cyndie McLaren, who has been missing from Tannum Sands since Thursday.

"If that persons is seeing this interview now let the authorities know you are OK," he said.

"Our major concern is your well-being."

He said police were looking at Tannum Sands, Gladstone, Blackwater and Biloela areas.

"We see she has been talking to people over social media," he said.

He said she left her carers home in Tannum Sands on Thursday and there was no reported disturbance.

"She may have been unhappy where she was staying at the time," he said.

"There has been instances where she has gone but not for this period of time before."

Speaking to the girl he said "we will work with you to find you somewhere you are happy to stay but before that we need to know you're safe."

He also asked people who were housing her to contact police so it could be confirmed she was safe and well.

Anyone with any information should contact Gladstone Police on 4971 3222 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
