A CENTRAL Queensland newborn couldn't wait for mum to arrive at the hospital before entering the world this morning.

A Gemfields woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl at about 5.50am on the side of the road in an ambulance en route to hospital with the assistance of paramedics, the Queensland Ambulance Service reports.

The QAS report both mother and baby were being transported stable to Emerald Hospital.
