A MAN was stabbed during a fight between two prisoners at Maryborough Correctional Centre on Christmas Day, just days after two fires had the prison put into lockdown.
The 21-year-old prisoner was taken to the Maryborough Hospital for treatment to a wound in his upper back, and was in a stable condition.
Another man was assessed at the prison's medical centre after the incident about 9am.
It was the second disturbance at the jail this week after two fires were lit in a cell on Monday night.
Both a corrections officer and a prisoner were injured, but their injuries were not related to the fire, a Department of Justice and Attorney-General spokesperson said.
"The department is unable to provide any specific details of such incidents for security and confidentiality reasons," the spokesperson said. "Support services are in place for staff following any incident."
A spokeswoman for Department of Corrective Services said two firefighters extinguished the fires about 9.40pm.
The incidents come just two weeks after a prison officer warned a dangerous situation was imminent as overcrowding forced dozens of prisoners to sleep on the floor in cramped cells.
