3 obvious scams you don't want to fall for

YOUR SAY: Ray Harch, like you I wonder how my email address has been passed around to people and companies, which for the most part I don't deal with.

I have never done an online survey. Every week I receive at least 70 emails telling me there is a voucher in my name waiting to be picked up. From businesses such as Bunnings, Myer, Coles, Target, and various others.

Just last week I had offers to help me get out of debt fast, (don't owe anyone any money), how to have a more enjoyable sex life, how to build my wealth, how to please the woman in my life, (don't have one of those), how to get control of my children, (don't have any), etc, etc.

There are the scam emails currently doing the rounds as well. Australia Post has a parcel waiting for me.

For every hour I don't pick it up I will be charged $1.53 so could I please respond with my card details ASAP.

That gave me a laugh.

Then AGL telling me I owe $846 in electricity charges.

Do you receive scam emails?

Funny that, Ergon is my electricity provider. I did report that to Ergon and AGL and both were very helpful and wanted all the details given in the scam email.

The bogus phone calls are just as bad.

One advising me of the big virus in my computer. I thanked the lady very much and asked the whereabouts of the computer.

She questioned me as to why I wanted to know that so I fibbed and told her it had been stolen and if she would let me know where it is I could contact the police to pick it up for me. The result was the phone call being cut short immediately.

Then someone saying they were from Telstra and needed me to verify all my details.

They wanted my full name, address, date of birth and how much I paid monthly for all of my Telstra accounts. My reply was that if he was from Telstra then he would already know that. After about six of these calls I reported them to Telstra as the number the call was made from showed up on my caller ID.

Like you Ray, I would love to know how to put a stop to these unsolicited emails. In closing I would also like to advise those who forward emails, please clean off any one else's contact details so they don't just go round and round.
